Date Calculator
Add or subtract days, weeks, months, and years from any date quickly and accurately.
1. How can I calculate the number of days between two dates?
Enter the starting date and the ending date, then compare the two calendar dates. The calculation determines the number of days separating them. For example, the period from March 1 to March 10 spans 9 days when counting the difference between the dates. Whether the starting or ending day is included can affect the result, so use the counting method appropriate for your purpose.
2. Can I add days to a specific date?
Yes. Start with the date you want to use and specify the number of days to add. The calculation moves forward through the calendar, accounting for the different lengths of each month. For example, adding 10 days to January 20 gives January 30. This type of date addition can be useful when determining deadlines, due dates, or future events.
3. Can I subtract days from a date?
Yes. Subtracting days moves backward from the starting date. Enter the date and the number of days you want to remove, then determine the resulting calendar date. For example, subtracting 15 days from April 20 gives April 5. When the calculation crosses into another month or year, the calendar’s actual number of days must be taken into account.
4. How does the calculator handle months with different numbers of days?
Calendar months do not all contain the same number of days, so date calculations must follow the actual calendar rather than treating every month as having a fixed length. January has 31 days, while April has 30, for example. When adding or subtracting days across month boundaries, the calculation accounts for these differences instead of assuming every month is identical.
5. Does the Date Calculator account for leap years?
Yes, date calculations should account for leap years because February has 29 days during a leap year instead of 28. A leap year generally occurs every four years, with an exception for most century years that are not divisible by 400. This matters when calculating dates or the number of days across February in a leap year.
6. Can I calculate a future or past date from a starting date?
Yes. A starting date can be used to determine another date by adding or subtracting a specified number of days. Adding days moves forward to a future date, while subtracting them moves backward to a past date. This is useful for working out deadlines, planning events, tracking periods, or finding a calendar date a certain number of days away.
7. How can I check a date calculation?
Start by checking that the original date and the number of days are correct. Then count across each month involved, using the actual number of days in those months. For calculations spanning February, also check whether a leap year applies. You can verify a result by performing the calculation in the opposite direction—for example, subtracting the same number of days from a calculated future date.
